About the role
Weâre looking for a Housing First Caseworker (or âPathway Coachâ) to transform the lives of disadvantaged people by helping them transition into stable housing.
Whatâs the role like?
As a Housing First Caseworker, youâll be at the forefront of Beamâs new Housing First programme in Oxford, designed to support those experiencing homelessness whose needs arenât met by traditional homelessness services.
Youâll take on the responsibility of managing a small caseload of people referred to Beam, our âmembersâ. Youâll be playing a critical role in supporting these members to sustain stable housing provided by the Council, ensuring they engage with other services and building their independence.
This involves a wide range of support activities tailored to each individualâs needs. Youâll guide clients through the processes of looking after a home, accessing healthcare, and connecting with community services. Equally important, youâll work to boost their self-confidence and autonomy through personalised coaching, skill development, and encouragement.
Youâll be
- Forging strong and meaningful relationships - some members will engage with this service for years giving the opportunity to build back their trust in people and systems
- Working in partnership with multiple services - youâll play a navigator role with your members supporting them in working with drug and alcohol services, housing officers, healthcare and various other services
- Wearing your problem-solving hat - the people we support have unique barriers and youâll constantly find creative ways to overcome them and hunt down the best opportunities for progression
- Working towards social impact targets - using our cutting-edge in-house tech tools to progress members towards their goals
- Learning fast about social issues - our in-house training will give you new knowledge and skills to motivate and inspire people to realise their potential
- Testing new ways of working - great caseworkers look to supercharge our operational model so Beam will scale to support millions of people
You are
- Determined - changing lives is not easy and youâre someone who loves hard challenges
- Humble and supportive - your members will have their ups and downs but youâll stick with them
- Emotionally mature and confident - youâll need to set boundaries and know when to communicate clearly
- Adaptable and resilient - youâre someone whoâs energised by ever-changing and fast-paced environments
- An ideas person - youâre driven to find new and better ways of doing things
- Willing and able to travel - your members will likely need a lot of in person support across Oxford
Youâll need
- Experience working with hard to reach members - ideally youâll have already worked in a similar role such as rough sleeping outreach or drug and alcohol services
- Strong communication skills - youâll regularly be communicating with a diverse group of members as well as internal stakeholders and our government partners
- Experience and comfort with multi-tasking - youâll need to be comfortable moving forward many peopleâs cases each week
- Compassion for people in tough situations - many of your members will have long histories of trauma that can play out in unexpected way
- Respect for data-driven decision-making - alongside your humanity, youâll appreciate the importance of acting on data
Sound like you? Perhaps you donât feel you tick every box - thatâs OK, we encourage those who feel 70/75% confident with the role, to please hit âApplyâ, especially if youâre excited about helping kickstart a new era of opportunity for those left behind!
