Head of Communications
Lead Beam’s Marketing and Comms and take the UK’s best-known social impact tech startup to new heights
Intro
At Beam, you get to do work that really matters. We’re solving the world’s toughest social problems. And we’re growing fast 🚀
It’s not easy. Nothing worth doing ever is. But we take care of everyone who works here with everything from coaching to personal budgets and pay highly competitively.
You’ll be joining a company that’s having a huge impact on people’s lives with a culture where you can be yourself, have fun and progress rapidly.
About the role
Despite the technological breakthroughs of the last 50 years, welfare services remain largely analogue, defined by in-person support provided by overwhelmed caseworkers.
Beam believes it's possible to use tech and AI to build a world in which welfare services become wildly cheaper and higher quality.
This is a unique opportunity to work hand in glove with a Co-Founder of Beam to shape the conversation around welfare within central and local government and the civil service.
You’ll be a true communications all-rounder and will thrive on variety and excel at prioritising and executing marketing and communications across multiple channel.
Your legacy will be Beam’s ability to reach the millions of people currently underserved by traditional welfare while redefining what’s possible in the eyes of governments around the world.
You’ll be
Leading the strategy and execution of a roadmap that includes:
Developing and maintaining a 6-month rolling roadmap that covers how Beam can lead the public conversation around AI and welfare through work across multiple channels including PR, social media and content, and events
PR: Hustling to secure coverage in Tier 1 and local media through creative PR human interest, data-led stories and thought leadership that spotlights Beam’s work and technology
Public affairs: Managing a public affairs agency to generate exceptional ROI with local government
Content and social media: delivering on-message content to the right audiences, whether that’s a LinkedIn post, webinar or whitepaper
Events: Securing high-profile speaking slots and organising roundtables with senior stakeholders that get and keep Beam front of mind for key decision makers
Risk and reputation management: staying alert to risk management including the vulnerabilities of Beam members and the sensitivities that come with working with government on high-profile issues
Management and team-building: Managing a generalist marketer focused on B2B and B2C while leaving you to focus on marketing and comms in the public sector, and working with the cofounders to build a high-performance marketing and comms function
You are
Passionate about using tech to transform how government can raise the bar on services for those left behind
Player/Coach - you’re entrepreneurial and love rolling up your sleeves to make something happen, but can also plan and execute an impactful strategy
A marketing all-rounder who may have built or led a marketing or communication function in a high-growth company
A curious learner - you may have no or limited experience of working with government but you’re someone who loves to learn and be in the detail
A natural networker - someone who can build strong relationships with journalists, other organisations comms leaders and senior figures in government
Goal Driven - able to work with discipline to ambitious targets and be a bar raiser to direct reports and others
You thrive on ambiguity, and are energised by the idea of working in a scaling tech company, getting your hands dirty in a fast-moving startup, whether cold-pitching journalists or spinning up a simple and elegant ops process
